The association between aortic stiffness parameters and left ventricular deformation: preliminary results from the MESA 5 study

چکیده
Background Aortic stiffness parameters have been studied as a risk marker corollary to traditional risk markers used in Framingham risk stratification. Differences in risk prediction ability have been noted between pulse wave velocity (PWV) and other parameters. Here, the relationship of PWV and aortic distensibility with left ventricular deformational measurements (e.g. radial strain, circumferential strain, ejection fraction and torsion) are explored.

Comparison of Cardiac Function in Young Patients with Thalassemia Intermedia and Healthy Individuals Using Echocardiography Method
Background: Cardiac dysfunction due to chronic anemia and hemosiderosis are the major causes of death among patients with thalassemia intermedia. This study was performed to compare the cardiac function in thalassemia intermedia patients with normal subjects by means of echocardiography. Materials and Methods: This was a case-control study performed on 22 patients affected by thalassemia int...
متن کاملAortic biomechanics in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
BACKGROUND Ventricular-vascular coupling is an important phenomenon in many cardiovascular diseases. The association between aortic mechanical dysfunction and left ventricular (LV) dysfunction is well characterized in many disease entities, but no data are available on how these changes are related in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). AIM OF THE WORK This study examined whether HCM alone is ...
متن کاملAssociation of Aortic Stiffness With Left Ventricular Remodeling and Reduced Left Ventricular Function Measured by Magnetic Resonance Imaging: The Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis.
BACKGROUND This study sought to assess cross-sectional associations of aortic stiffness assessed by magnetic resonance imaging with left ventricular (LV) remodeling and myocardial deformation in the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA). METHODS AND RESULTS Aortic arch pulse wave velocity (PWV) was measured with phase contrast cine magnetic resonance imaging. LV circumferential strain ...
متن کاملEvaluation of Cardiac Function in Patients with Thalassemia Intermedia
Abstract Background Thalassemia intermedia is a variety of beta thalassemia which shows clinical symptoms somewhere between asymptomatic carriers and thalassemia major. Cardiac dysfunctions due to chronic anemia and hemosiderosis are the major causes of death in these patients. The purpose of this study is to evaluate cardiac function in these patients by echocardiography. Materials and Met...
متن کاملRelationship between aortic stiffness and modes of left ventricular deformation at rest and dobutamine-stress differ in the presence of preserved and compromised contractile capacity
Objective To investigate the phenotypic relationships between aortic stiffness and left ventricular (LV) stroke volume (SV) and modes of deformation (longitudinal LD and radial -RD) at rest and stress, with preserved and compromised contractile capacity. Background Increased aortic stiffness, measured by pulse wave velocity (PWV), is linked to a range of cardiovascular (CV) risk factors and act...
